The frames are integrated in -pic as ;SPMlt;object;SPMgt;s like this: they generate a dummy object and then define the |@@ | action to place the requested frame and the |@@ | operation to place the requested frame around the current ;SPMquot;and;SPMquot; the previous object (using the |@| command of the kernel).
